Under the promotional program of Kagoshima University (Financial subsidies on the educational programs, part of which require to visit foreign countries), eight students accompanied by two University staff (Dr. Yasuhisa Kato, Professor, Center for International Planning and Mr. Masazumi Nasuhara, Director, Research &International Division) visited Kunming and Lijang, China in 21 February-5 March 2011.
The educational trip to China was jointly developed by Kagoshima University and Yunnan Agriculture University which is a sister University of our University. Students have attended a series of lectures made by the professors in Yunnan Agriculture University on Agriculture Bio-diversity, Agriculture Production and Livestock Industry in Yunnan Province and other subjects including Tea that is one of the main industries in the province, minority ethnic groups, and Taoism.
Students group also visited various areas including local market, agriculture industries, cultural places such as temples, and Lijang that is UNESCO world culture heritage to deeply understand the people and culture of Yunnan Province, China.
As a main objective of the educational program was to understand China without prejudice, to directly observe the situation by own eyes was quite useful to fulfill the objective. In addition, it should be worth to mention that five Chinese students kindly accompanied with Japanese group in the most of the activities and active communication among the students greatly facilitated in achieving the educational objectives.
